forward motion

While I was at work, my boss showed me a video from The Alison Show on YouTube. It was part 7 (I think) of her how to be awesome series. Alison started talking about all the cool things she had started doing and how much time in effort she puts into everything she does. Alison sounds amazing.

And my boss is amazing. She is always making friends wherever she goes and she is always doing something. Whether it's ordering ice cream for the shave ice shack, catching up with old friends, spending time with her family, going to church, or just simply getting her eyebrows done, she is always on the move and I envy her for that.

Yes, I'm sure that forward kind of lifestyle can get tiring, but I am 94% sure it's better than being tired from just laying around all day. Which is exactly what I've been spending most of my time with. Just laying around.

So I'm starting to commit myself to a lifestyle change. It's my theory that actually doing things with my time and life will make me become a happier person (I'm already happy 80% of the time but who couldn't use more happiness?). I'm going to try and use every minute I can with something productive, fantastic, or both.
Okay, okay, I do go out at least once a week with my ever so loving boyfriend. And yes, that counts. But the only other times I go out during the week is for work. I love where I work, but c'mon. That's pretty sad.

I challenge everyone to never just lay around.. Unless you're sleeping I guess.
I challenge everyone to use their time wisely.
Got a blog? Write up some drafts for later.
Have siblings? Take them to the park or play some soccer.
Have an awesome group of friends? Go find some cool thrift stores and thrift to your hearts desire.
You're artistic? Tape together 20 cardboard boxes and paint something magnificent on them.
Have a mom that you adore? Go buy her flowers.

The options are endless.

We shouldn't waste our lives doing nothing. Get off that couch and go have fun.

judgement

I used to be the worst when it came to judging people from the little things I had heard or just by the way they look. High school can really ruin and tear a person to pieces. I think a lot of the reasons I was so judging was because of the way I was treated through Jr high and high school. Ever since the 9th grade I've believed that I wasn't beautiful. In my mind I've always been too chubby, not pretty enough, and just a crap person. It really affected the friendships I made these past few years. I never tried talking to the "cool/popular" kids who always seemed to have the most fun and friends in school, I was too afraid of how they'd look at me because I wasn't beautiful.
A lot of things bothered me throughout high school like stereotypes, cliques, bullies, unimportant classes, and judgement. Walking into the school building everyday was like judgement day. I never felt like I could fit in, and that probably explains why I've only had one constant friend the past 3 years.

Alright, I'm not trying to tell you my bullying stories, I'm not trying to pull a Demi and whine over every fat/ugly comment I've received, I'm not even saying these things to make you feel bad for me. And you really shouldn't feel bad for me because I finally feel beautiful (took long enough right?). Sure, every once in a while I have a bad hair day or look at my thighs and think dang these are thick muthasuckas but I LIKE that I don't look "perfect".

I want every young, middle aged, and old person to know that you should stop caring. Once you stop caring how people interpret the kind of person you are from the first look they get of you, you'll be so much happier. I know, this is easier said than done. But if you want real, genuine, happy people in your life the first step to loving yourself and not caring about anyone else's thoughts is to stop judging. First impressions are fine, but don't keep one set thought about someone just because they are wearing a strange outfit (it's not strange to them), or because they look a certain way (they can't help the way they're born).

Please please please just try to find the great and good and fantastic in everyone you meet. That gothic girl who eats by herself? She is an amazing artist. That new boy who can't hold a conversation with pretty girls? He's the best drummer you'll ever meet. That girl who wears bizarre clothes? She's going to be the coolest actress ever. Plus you can always find an amazing feature, that boy has crooked teeth but the most blue eyes I've ever seen, that girl probably dyed her hair too much but she has the cutest laugh.
Once we get over ourselves, we can start falling for everyone we meet.

thank you's

I recently moved back to Utah from Oahu.
I know I know. You're probably thinking Hawaii is better than Utah x83291748 times. It's cliche to say but, it really doesn't matter where you are if you're not with the people you love. I didn't even live over there on that island for a whole year and I desperately missed my best friend, all of my family, dollar theaters, snow, decently priced anything, and the beautiful mountains/canyons. Then I realized that I take the people and things in my life for granted far too easily. So in spite of myself I'm going to give thanks.

To my best friend, thank you.
Thank you for loving me and my craziness. Thank you for accepting my annoying laugh, my waterfall tear ducts and my uber ticklish body. Thank you for being here.

To my favorite bands, thanks.
It's like you are me and I am you. You're always there to pick me up or inspire me and it's just fantastic.

To my savior, thank you.
My life as had many ups and downs and you've surprisingly been there through them all. I'm lucky to know you. I'm grateful you'll never leave my side no matter where I am.

To my momma, thank you.
From me screaming in diapers and making you stay up, to me coming home late and making you stay up, I'm glad you love me and always care about me. I probably act more annoyed than I'd like to but, I can't imagine loving anyone else as much as I love you.

So all in all everyone should take a few minutes everyday realizing how lucky they are, how much they have to appreciate, and how much love they're surrounded by.

blogging.

I'm not going to pretend that I'm some extraordinary girl with fantastic writing skills or anything. My blog is just going to be about my life.
Which, to be honest, will be simplicity at it's finest.
You'll read about my love for indie rock, good food, crafts, family, life, traveling, incredible books, my Pinterest addiction, and much more.
I can't make any promises as to how often I will post, but I'll try to post somewhat frequently. I've got some interesting things up in this crazy haired, over thought, confused head of mine.
This is also one of the ways I hope to keep a decent journal (I tend to never finish an actual journal due to finishing the book and having to buy a new one, but since this is like a limitless book maybe it'll work better for me).

I figure it's fair that if you read my blog you'll know some things about me:
1. I've killed every succulent I've ever owned
2. I adore art in every form
3. I'm a sucker for anything having to do with love. Except Disneyland proposals.
4. I'm the lead singer in a band called "the hot shower" (sarcasm implied)
5. My favorite jacket is dark forest green and I bought it for fifty cents

So there are 5 completely unrelated facts about me. Take them as you will.
Don't let this first post scare you away though.
Something fun to know about my blog though, is that every title finishes the sentence of my blog name.

Oh and I'll usually post a song and/or quote at the end of every post.
